everything starts with visions
I have now lived since 5 years very close to my home church (I'm part of the sunday tech team), without going there to fix cables on the weekdays. I've long thought that I'm lazy and lack the energy to go there after work to debug audio issues. One day, I’lll be well rested and go there.
Well, that day never seems to come. During covid, the morale was wildly different. Then, we had to start livestream sermons to isolated people. It was lots of fun being in a growthful environment.
Our church tech organisation has been dying a slow death for a good while. Leaving your commitment is connected with shame (”oh not you too!! How are we supposed to cope!”). It stinks and makes me want to do the minimum work possible.
I got a shower thought yesterday. How would I feel if we had a really crisp vision? Something like
Our church should be at the frontier in tech. When people walk into the sermon, we want them to enter worship right away. We want to be an environment where the holy spirit is constantly around people. We attract talents that think like us and repel those not interested in participating in building our collective
I found myself stoked over this imaginary manifest!! Of course, this is only a vision for the church tech department. A church-wide vision would have to encompass more fields.
But what it gives is crystal clear direction for leadership decisions. Does this decision take us in the direction of our vision? It makes the organization scalable, because with a clear vision, we no longer need representatives in each decision making department. We can just fall back on the vision and avoid the bottleneck.
That vision made me full of energy and engagement after a long day of work and kids. Aint that crazy hey??
